1856. crunch, crunch, crunch

crowding out the sand
a treasure trove of seashells
crunching underfoot 🦊❤️

Along the shore line every few yards is a new landscape. The most interesting are the scenes of gazillions of crushed shells that crunch underfoot. Hard on the feet but interesting to the ears. 🦊❤️

1855. looking beyond “knowledge”

how can we not see
a majesty beyond what
we think that we know? 🦊❤️

The older I get, the more that I know that I do not know.  Freedom to believe… 🦊❤️

1854. eternal optimist

sea and sky are one
no space for the sun to rise
no matter… she waits 🦊❤️

It’s 6:51 AM. The sun is due to show its blazing head now… but the heavy clouds from lingering from last nights rains crowds out it appearance.  Nonetheless Yulan is at the ready to capture the moment that never comes. She is the consummate optimist. 🦊❤️

1853. fortune telling - lost fortunes

a town full of slots
cigarette smoke and lost bets
atlantic city 🦊❤️

We are spending the weekend at a friend’s place a few miles from Atlantic City. We decided to go to AC after a late breakfast to take some photos for our blogs and to check out the boardwalk and casinos. Unfortunately the prosperity and improvements promised to the city when the casinos were being proposed not only didn’t come to fruition, the decay and decline seems to have accelerated. 🦊❤️

1852. like icarus

Seagulls at sunset are out of this world…. 🦊❤️

1851. fall is for shedding stuff

Inspired by the shedding of green and leaves by the trees, I decided to shed my hair. 🦊❤️

1850. stark contrast

mid the changing leaves
the ghostly white sycamore
haunting in contrast 🦊❤️

In fall, every day that passes brings with it new contrasts on the old that makes it all new. 🦊❤️

1849. solitary dancer

hanging on a thread
pirouetting round and round
dance golden leaf dance 🦊❤️

For three days straight I passed by a solitary golden leaf  spinning round and round from an invisible strand of  spider webbing. First this way… then that way… then back again. Happy is the person that does what they love when no one is looking to cheer them on!! 🦊❤️

1848. lean on me

when i was falling
you stood tall and oh so firm
now we stand as one 🦊❤️

I marvel at the sight of tall trees that have been in the midst of tumbling to earth for some reason of nature and are stopped dead in their trajectory downward by another tree.  Often the rescuing tree is knocked askew by the sudden impact. Both trees, from that moment forward stand together in mutual support of each other.  We are all trees needing a another tree to fall into for support.  TIMBER… 🦊❤️

1847. a smile

how many people
has this smiling face greeted
and brightened their day? 🦊❤️

A smile today will do more to change the course of time and brighten it than will an angry face or words.  🦊❤️

1846. a panoramic day

what a day we had
oodles of eats and realness
richness of it all 🦊❤️

We had a wonderful bar-b-que behind Yulan’s apartment with her neighbors. A breath of fresh air even with the smoky wood fire that was burning. Every half hour or so a train roared by on the tracks adjacent to her building. It was perfect!!! 🦊❤️

1845. dots

red, yellow, green, pink
and don’t forget the orange
brief trip to heaven 🦊❤️

I have been resisting the urge to buy a box of Dots candy at our small local movie theater for way too long.  So last evening we went to the movies and without hesitation I scored a big old box of Dots. I opened the box and searched out an orange one (my fave) and savored its texture and its taste. I was in heaven. I ate half of the box, closed it and walked into the lobby and threw the remainder into the trash can.  It was a wonderful experience… then it was time to let it go. 🦊❤️

1844. mine field

time to step lightly
as leaves fall and join forces
to hide roots and rocks 🦊❤️

Fall is rapidly approaching and soon enough the quietude of the trails will be filled with the rustle of leaves underfoot and the hazards of hidden rocks and roots. One step at a time. 🦊❤️

1843. a little bit of magic

a simple stone wall
propping up a sagging trail
lifts my spirits too 🦊❤️

Little treasures along the way.  Making the trail a magical place. 🦊❤️

1842. a simple scene

at the cedar’s feet
a patina of green moss
warming in the sun 🦊❤️

As I ambled along in the woods after a rainy night, a lovely moment of warmth was at my feet. 🦊❤️

1841. windmill spinner

spinning and spinning
round and round you go and go
yet… you still stand still 🦊❤️

I have been trying forever to capture the blur of windmill spinner blades as they twirl furiously in the wind with my phone’s camera. The result is always the same - no motion - blades just standing still.  One of life’s little disappointments… 🦊❤️

1840. blown away

dandelion head
in its perfect shadow form
i’m blown away 🦊❤️

I continue to be fascinated by shadows. I was “blown away” by the absolute perfection of a dandelion seed head’s shadow on rock. Then a wind came along and the shadow and the seeds were blown away!! 🦊❤️

1839. family is for fun

such a busy day
food, art and ice cream galore
family fun sunday 🦊❤️

Spent a wonderful day with Kevin and Hillary’s family eating, visiting my art exhibit and finally invading the local Dairy Queen for every type of sweet ice cream treats. We always have a great time when we get together.  🦊❤️

1838. the shadow behind the bloom

wonder will peek through
sometimes in just a shadow
sometimes in full bloom 🦊❤️

What is more wondrous, the color, the shape, the intricacy or the fragrance of a flower? Or is it all of the forces and mysteries of the universe that creates its shadow?  I honestly cannot decide… 🦊❤️

1837. breathing in the ferns

up among the ferns
i pause to look and breathe
joy filling my lungs 🦊❤️

Old friends along the trails have been waiting for me to show up again and say “hey”. Today me and the ferns exclaimed “So glad to see you again!”🦊❤️

1836. just one more game…

another dollar
buys us hope that we can yell
“B-I-N-G-O” 🦊❤️

We had a blast plunking down dollar after dollar in hopes of yelling loudly,  “BINGO”! Well we never did yell “BINGO” but the kielbasa sandwiches and pizza were great!!🦊❤️

1835. inching my way home

it’s been way too long
since walking these winding trails
your “welcome backs”… sweet…🦊❤️

Due to some foot issues I have not been able to go into the woods for quite awhile to meander and “just be”. Like a tentative cat, I am slowly inching my way forward into its healing embrace. I am grateful for every step forward. 🦊❤️

1834. cracks in walls

in the wailing wall
the faithful insert prayers
wawa’s wall not so 🦊❤️

While pumping my gas at the Wawa convenience store, I noticed a cigarette tucked into a crack between the stones of the structure. I immediately thought of the Western Wall (Wailing Wall) in Jerusalem. Sometimes my mind scares me. Lol 🦊❤️

1833. its best day behind it

an old blue bird house
falling apart at the seams
dangles in the breeze 🦊❤️

It was a breezy day. I heard a soft, dull “clunking” as I walked up a hill. A dilapidated wooden bird house hung from a wire and was hitting a tree. I wondered how many little birdies had hatched before it became so forlorn. 🦊❤️

1832. heavenly treat

such a royal treat
chocolate dipped vanilla cone
storm of taste and feel 🦊❤️

I recently discovered a very old school Dairy Queen store in the area.  Now I can take a trip into the past to enjoy my favorite treat of all time, a chocolate dipped vanilla cone.  Oh that wonderful crunchy sound, feel and taste of the frozen chocolate crust breaking and melting in my mouth. 🦊❤️

1831. hidden treasures

on a rotting log
on this fresh new morn

In the nooks and crannies along the trail, fungi of many kinds are blossoming this morning. Short lived and beautiful. 🦊❤️

1830. dread d.m.v

dreaded d.m.v.
every four years a must do
ugh and real i.d. 🦊❤️

This is the year my driver’s license must be renewed. Plus I finally got around to applying for the required “real id”. It is exceeding my worst expectations so far!!!   I guess I’ll just take a deep breath and lol.  To make it worse I’m having a bad hair day! 🦊❤️

1829. the shirt off his back

The Following are Haiku by Frank

As I was setting up my art exhibit at Spring Mill Pointe senior community a few days ago I met Frank and his wife Bonnie. When I first talked with them  I was immediately touched by their friendliness and cheerfulness.  Frank was wearing an awesome pink Hawaiian type shirt that really caught my eye.  Each time he passed through the exhibit area I commented on his shirt and I said I’d swap him a painting for  the shirt. We had lots of chuckles with the back and forth. Well last evening was the opening night of my exhibit and also the “Meet The Artist” event. Frank approached me with a paper bag and he handed it to me. In the bag was the pink shirt and a page of 5 haiku that he wrote about Tommy the cat. He informed me that he had read some of my haiku and that he has been a haiku writer since high school, amassing volumes of his own poems.  We hugged and both talked about how amazing that we both wrote haiku as if we were meant to meet and be friends. I am very grateful and honored by Frank’s generosity and kindness. It made my night so very special.  Thank you so much Frank. I am proud to have you and Bonnie as my friends. 🦊❤️

1828. clouds in the sky

billowing dark clouds
so ominously looming
tomorrow… sunny 🦊❤️

Clouds, even the absence of clouds, are a constant reminder that now is now and later will be later.  Clouds come and go as they please and will accept no help in how they paint the sky. They just want us to look at them with awe. 🦊❤️

1827. don’t be a sponge

it’s all background noise
that we attach ourselves to
we get lost in it 🦊❤️

The “news” of the day is ever clamoring in our ears and flashing before our eyes. There are many versions of  the “news” to tune into. We choose our channels and we absorb it like a sponge does water. We become soaked in it. We are drowned by it.  🦊❤️

1826. not to worry

laying on gravel
poppyseed is not fretting
‘bout getting dirty 🦊❤️

We are spending a wonderful weekend with friends at their lake house up north. I spend as much time marveling at the scenery as I do watching their two dogs Griff and Poppyseed just being dogs. While they both have their little quirks, they are gloriously absent of worry about senseless concerns. They are “lucky dogs”. 🦊❤️
