2038. thank you rob

insidious foe
your three shiny leaves of woe
forever prowling 🦊❤️

As I was sitting in my comfortable chair on a lazy Sunday morning, I thought, “I have no photo to post on my haiku blog - oh what should I do?” At that very moment my good friend Rob texted me the above picture with the comment, “Can’t stop poison ivy!!!” Perfect timing Rob. Thank you!! 🦊❤️

2037. life’s puzzles

on a quiet stroll
the missing puzzle pieces
can often be found 🦊❤️

When you are having a difficult time understanding the “whole picture” of life’s many puzzles, a quiet, solo walk will often help you find the picture’s missing pieces! 🦊❤️

2036. rivers flow here

still beating the odds
an asphalt bound tree sprouting
nurtured by rivers 🦊❤️

A few weeks ago I posted a picture and haiku about a tiny tree that was growing in a crack of a very busy parking lot. We check on it every time we pass the area on our walks. I was especially fascinated by the network of little rivers in the asphalt that are nurturing its fragile existence.  🦊❤️

2035. miraculous none the less

birds filling the sky
living their inner bird lives
not all birds will fly 🦊❤️

When I saw the lifeless body of a newly hatched bird, the gift of life was magnified in my mind. Its short, flightless life remains as miraculous as those lives flying overhead. 🦊❤️

2034. special encounters

what makes a stroll fun?
taking in the old and new!
and petting simon!! 🦊❤️

Whenever we stroll around the neighborhood, we are always on the lookout for what is new.  Maybe more importantly we enjoy relaxing in the familiarity of what is the same. But when we run into Simon the neighborhood cat and lavish him with pets, the stroll becomes extra special. 🦊❤️

2033. a life gone

it’s all that’s left
just circles of  years well lived
hallowed ground for sure 🦊❤️

As we walked through the neighborhood, we were sad to see that an enormous tree had been taken down.  The rainy, dismal weather matched how we felt about its departure. 🦊❤️

2032. hearin’ led zeppelin

hearin’ led zeppelin
on a hot - slow car wash day
my private concert… 🦊❤️

As I waited for my car to appear at the end of the car wash tunnel, I heard strains of Led Zeppelin coming from the employee’s shed. To my surprise there sat a tall man hunched over his guitar picking along. I clapped! We crammed lots of conversation in a short span of 3 or 4 minutes about music, life, dreams, times and the future as he dried my car… thank you for adding a great part to my day Russell. 🦊❤️

2031. deer path

up a steep incline
a well worn path meandering
courtesy the deer 🦊❤️

I love seeing the telltale signs of deer on the move. 🦊❤️

2030. a sea of fragrance

all of a sudden
a most heavenly fragrance
a sea of clover 🦊❤️

As we strolled along we were overwhelmed by an exquisite fragrance. We knelt down and placed our noses close to the of sea of cloud like blooms of  clover.  What a  Sunday morning treat… 🦊❤️

2029. realization

as i walked along
i stopped at the perfect spot
where it became clear 🦊❤️

Last night as I walked along a Philly sidewalk, I unexpectedly walked into a box in which I felt comfortable standing.  🦊❤️

2028. an end and a beginning

it’s commencement day
four years of college over
time to start what’s next 🦊❤️

Today is commencement day at the college that I live next  to.  Lots of proud families gathering to celebrate the beginning of the next chapter. As I walked through the campus I could not help but reflect on my own college days at Pitt and Penn State. I had to chuckle because I still have the recurrent dream where it’s finals week and I have not been to any of the classes…. Lol. 🦊❤️

2027. you’re on your own baby!

in a field of green
a pond slider lays its eggs
then goes on her way 🦊❤️

Today I saw a Pond Slider Turtle laying its eggs in a grassy field. After laying the eggs the turtle leaves the eggs and never returns. If the eggs hatch, the babies are totally on their own to make their way into the world. As I looked at the large mother turtle I was struck with just what a courageous and miraculous journey of survival she has made on her own. 🦊❤️

2026. exhausted

in a clover bed
exhausted dandelions
soon will bend and sleep 🦊❤️

Today as we walked our morning stroll, stems of  once bright dandelions stood tall having done their cycle of life, now ready to go to sleep. 🦊❤️

2025. take a second look

the perfect hider
invisible to most eyes
except those that see 🦊❤️

This creature is called a Rough Prominent. As I passed by a stucco wall what appeared to be a leaf caught my eye. I took a closer look and lo and behold what a wonderful surprise. 🦊❤️

2024. magic mushroom

one would almost think
that a skilled artist carved this
abstract mushroom 🦊❤️

When I see the art that is created by nature, my mind fills with inspiration to explore new creative projects. 🦊❤️

2023. family matters

standing face to face
canadian geese discuss
where to lay the eggs 🦊❤️

It’s that time of the year that Canadian Geese couples build their nests and lay eggs. As we walk along we see all of the various couples here and there preparing for new additions to their families. 🦊❤️

2022. against the odds

a day long ago
a chosen seed sprouted roots
and beat all the odds 🦊❤️

As I stood and gazed at the ancient trunk of a huge tree, I thought about the miracle of its start as a seedling to its current state as a towering weary and wise wooden monument.  Beating the odds…. 🦊❤️

2021. a chair’s life

their rest time near done
another day of sitters
and eaters soon starts 🦊❤️

I couldn’t help but feature these two red chairs awaking from a night’s rest. Another day of hungry diners about to begin. 🦊❤️
