2049. mail pouch tobacco

grab a great big wad
stuff it deep inside your cheek
try not to turn green 🦊❤️

For the last 55 years as I drove the turnpike between my hometown and Philadelphia an old Mail Pouch chewing tobacco sign has endured on the side of an ever aging barn. Yesterday as we drove to and from a family reunion and celebration I was treated again to a flood of memories associated with my cross state travels over the years. But foremost in my bank of memories is the first time that I chewed tobacco  while working in a steel mill in The Mon Valley. I immediately turned a shade of green I have not seen since!! 🦊❤️

2048. fly like a bird

no fence high enough
to stop my galavanting
the sky’s the limit… 🦊❤️

As I walked by, a single Mourning Dove looked down at me and kindly posed for a photo. Then it simply took off high into the sky… wow! 🦊❤️

2047. boiling water and pizza

the same axiom
holds true for water and pizza
watching doesn’t help 🦊❤️

A couple of times a month I have morning coffee with my friends Rob and Andrea’s place. I bring along Wawa coffee and he usually supplies delicious bagels and fruit. Well last week he surprised me with a home crafted pizza with delicious tiny golden tomatoes from their garden. I got a kick out of watching him,  watching his pizza cook perfectly.  It didn’t quicken the cooking time, but it assured the crust was perfectly done!!!  🦊❤️

2046. won’t you be my neighbor?

a stalk of clover
some blades of hearty green grass
comp’ny for the tree 🦊❤️

Our little parking lot bound tree is growing a neighborhood. Mr. Rogers would be pleased. 🦊❤️

2045. r.i.p. david hockney

bringing colors to life
following art where it leads
where blue leaves make sense 🦊❤️

Today’s post of David Hockney is a republishing of my post of 2020. Yesterday he died at age 88. He was an English artist who never ceased recreating himself artistically his entire career. If I had to choose an artist who inspired me the most in my own artistic journey, it would be David Hockney. Rest in peace.  🦊❤️

2044. bolt of lightning

from my eye’s corner
an orange lighting bolt leaps
to my eye’s center 🦊❤️

Going from invisible to a flash of lightning… a leaping deer. 🦊❤️

2043. can’t get there from here

trapped in a labyrinth
round and round we made our way
finally to escape 🦊❤️

During out evening stroll we came upon a meditation labyrinth. No matter what path we took we couldn’t seem to get to the center. When we finally did make it to the center, getting out was equally challenging. Not very meditative…. The tracker app that we use on walks captured our effort. 🦊❤️

2042. contemporary still life

looking straight ahead
not at hand held devices
but at the pictures 🦊❤️
***
lined up like soldiers
giving their full attention
to thoughts on canvas 🦊❤️

We visited the Brandywine River Museum yesterday with our friends Gloria and Rachael. The exhibit featuring contemporary still life  works was so-so. But the saving grace of the excursion was the people watching of people looking at art. 🦊❤️

2041. catch me if i fall

dare i get closer
if i do i just might fall
from up here to there 🦊❤️

I love the butterflies that erupt in my stomach whenever I get too close to the edge. 🦊❤️

2040. don quixote is my hero

some would say it’s nuts
to water a hopeless cause
but someone has to… 🦊❤️

It has been a couple of months since we spotted a tiny tree sprouting from a crack in a large parking lot. It continues to hang in there. We are now watering it to keep it going in this hot weather. Quite a silly undertaking… but somebody has to do it! 🦊❤️

2039. observer

walking lost in thought
the ground passing underfoot
you quietly watch 🦊❤️

Time and time again I am pleasantly startled by deer standing quietly, watching my every move as I pass quietly by. 🦊❤️
