2062. baby and the bath water

they kept the baby
and they kept the bath water
but threw out the tub! 🦊❤️

I had to laugh when I saw a baby’s bathtub at the curbside  for the trash man. Did you ever hear the saying, “Don’t throw out the baby with the bath water?” Now you have!!!! Lol🦊❤️

2061. play ball!!

on the mound waiting
the pitcher hoping to throw
a goose egg game ! 🦊❤️
I got a kick out of seeing a team of Canadian Geese fly in to a freshly manicured ball field to play the local team of ducks.  The pitcher was anxious to throw his first no hit game! That is a “goose egg game” in Goose lingo! Lol🦊❤️

2060. the last

what a lonely place
to be the last to be called
to float all alone 🦊❤️

I looked at the last Cheerio floating in the sea of low fat milk. If it had feelings, “what would it be feeling?” I thought. Like the last kid called in a pick up baseball game maybe. Or maybe totally at peace in the quiet of a beautiful pool on a summer day. I wonder… 🦊❤️

2059. “smoke gets in your eyes”

amid the many wires
the smoke of such far off fires
sets the sun ablaze 🦊❤️

The smoke from the Canadian wildfires makes for such interesting skies… brings tears to one’s eyes. 🦊❤️

2058. mr. bill

looking up at me
his smile turned to an “oh no!”
“oh it’s mr. bill” 🦊❤️

Who out there remembers Mr. Bill from Saturday Night Live? 🦊❤️

2057. future fossil

in a flow of tar
a penny frozen in time
like ice age fossils 🦊❤️

When I spotted a penny captured in a flow of tar on a parking lot, my first impulse was to pry it loose. Then I thought about the Le Breau Tar Pits near Los Angeles. There, entrapped in the tar are fossils of the Ice Age like Saber Toothed Tigers and Wholly Mammoths.  Since pennies are no longer being minted, I decided to let it be in its grave of tar for future generations to find. 🦊❤️

2056. art critic

at the art museum
a harsh art critic did prowl
known as the “stink bug” 🦊❤️

We all got a chuckle when our friend Gloria commented that a “Stink Bug” was indeed an art critic during our visit to the local art museum. 🦊❤️

2055. magnetism

in the overnight
the light’s magnetic power
a gath’ring of moths 🦊❤️

While visiting friends over the holiday weekend, we were treated to a magnificent gathering of moths that were drawn to their garage wall by a light fixture. So many types… so many intricate designs. A real July Fourth display. 🦊❤️

2054. perfect miracle

what a miracle
the mirrorness of water…
and i can see it… 🦊❤️

There is something magical that happens whenever I sit still and listen to leaves rustling in the wind. Everything becomes a miracle. 🦊❤️

2053. refuge

in the blazing sun
my shadow finds some respite
with those from the leaves 🦊❤️

My shadow grows more and more grateful to the kindness of leaves during our current heatwave. 🦊❤️

2052. good bye sycamore

from its high wire perch
a lone bird chirps so sadly
“good bye sycamore…” 🦊❤️

It is indeed sad to watch an enormous Sycamore tree being slowly dismembered day after day by a work crew. A lonesome bird perched on a high wire agrees I think… 🦊❤️

2051. and the winner is….

up - up - up it climbs
who will be the first to bloom?
and the winner is!!!!! 🦊❤️

In a dense patch of weeds, A Jack in The Beanstalk like weed climbed into the sky to let the sun’s rays do their work on the anxious bloom buds waited. And the winning bloom is!!!!! 🦊❤️

2050. stand out

it’s taller than tall
who wouldn’t look up to you?
“grow on tree - grow on!!!” 🦊❤️

When I saw this single tree towering above the rest, I could not help but think about my Cousin Joe who was inducted into the Mid Mon Valley Sports Hall of Fame last weekend. Congratulations Joey!! 🦊❤️

2049. mail pouch tobacco

grab a great big wad
stuff it deep inside your cheek
try not to turn green 🦊❤️

For the last 55 years as I drove the turnpike between my hometown and Philadelphia an old Mail Pouch chewing tobacco sign has endured on the side of an ever aging barn. Yesterday as we drove to and from a family reunion and celebration I was treated again to a flood of memories associated with my cross state travels over the years. But foremost in my bank of memories is the first time that I chewed tobacco  while working in a steel mill in The Mon Valley. I immediately turned a shade of green I have not seen since!! 🦊❤️

2048. fly like a bird

no fence high enough
to stop my galavanting
the sky’s the limit… 🦊❤️

As I walked by, a single Mourning Dove looked down at me and kindly posed for a photo. Then it simply took off high into the sky… wow! 🦊❤️

2047. boiling water and pizza

the same axiom
holds true for water and pizza
watching doesn’t help 🦊❤️

A couple of times a month I have morning coffee with my friends Rob and Andrea’s place. I bring along Wawa coffee and he usually supplies delicious bagels and fruit. Well last week he surprised me with a home crafted pizza with delicious tiny golden tomatoes from their garden. I got a kick out of watching him,  watching his pizza cook perfectly.  It didn’t quicken the cooking time, but it assured the crust was perfectly done!!!  🦊❤️

2046. won’t you be my neighbor?

a stalk of clover
some blades of hearty green grass
comp’ny for the tree 🦊❤️

Our little parking lot bound tree is growing a neighborhood. Mr. Rogers would be pleased. 🦊❤️

2045. r.i.p. david hockney

bringing colors to life
following art where it leads
where blue leaves make sense 🦊❤️

Today’s post of David Hockney is a republishing of my post of 2020. Yesterday he died at age 88. He was an English artist who never ceased recreating himself artistically his entire career. If I had to choose an artist who inspired me the most in my own artistic journey, it would be David Hockney. Rest in peace.  🦊❤️

2044. bolt of lightning

from my eye’s corner
an orange lighting bolt leaps
to my eye’s center 🦊❤️

Going from invisible to a flash of lightning… a leaping deer. 🦊❤️

2043. can’t get there from here

trapped in a labyrinth
round and round we made our way
finally to escape 🦊❤️

During out evening stroll we came upon a meditation labyrinth. No matter what path we took we couldn’t seem to get to the center. When we finally did make it to the center, getting out was equally challenging. Not very meditative…. The tracker app that we use on walks captured our effort. 🦊❤️
